Herpes Virus

There are several myths that surround herpes and the herpes virus.  It is important to know these myths and the truths behind them in order to properly avoid contracting the disease or to make living with it easier.  Here are some of the more widespread misconceptions about herpes.

A person can get herpes from toilet seats.  This is false.   There have been no known proven cases of transmission of herpes from toilet seats.  The herpes virus is a fragile microorganism which dries out and dies when exposed to air.

A person who has herpes can never have sex again.  This is also false.  One can still have sex even if one is found to have herpes.  It is important however to undertake measures that can lessen the risk of transmitting the virus to another or contracting the disease from another person.  This means avoiding sexual intercourse or any sexual contact during the time that herpes sores are present.    It should also be remembered that herpes can be transmitted even when a person shows no overt symptoms.  This is known as asymptomatic shedding. That is why it is also advisable to use a latex condom during sexual intercourse.

Only promiscuous people get herpes.  This is not true.  Some experts aver that herpes is very common in North America and estimate that about fifty to eighty percent of the population has been exposed to the herpes virus.  Therefore one can contract herpes even if one has just had one or two sexual partners.  We do increase our risk of contracting herpes, however when we engage in unsafe sex with more people.

Herpes makes a person sterile.  Herpes does not make one sterile.  One is still perfectly capable of having a child even when one has contracted the disease.  Special precautions do have to be taken when a woman with herpes delivers a baby at the same time that she is experiencing a herpes sores outbreak.  In these cases, the baby is usually delivered via caesarian operation in order to avoid contact with the open sores or blisters which may transmit the virus to the baby.

Should you suspect that you have been infected with the herpes virus, immediately consult your doctor.  He or she will be able to address most of your questions and misconceptions about the disease.

Blood tests can confirm whether you have a herpes outbreak. One key thing to remember is that the oral kind (cold sores, fever blisters, etc) can be transmitted to the genitalia as well. It is very contagious, and special precautions should be used anytime someone is having an outbreak in any region of the body.

Thanks for clearing up several of these "herpes myths". It is very important to note that promiscuity does not in itself lead to herpes infection.

I would like to comment that babies of mother with herpes are not usually delivered by c-section. This is not normal. An active herpes infection at the time of delivery warrants a c-section, however a competent OB will prescribe medication as a preventative and work with the pregnant mother to avoid this at all costs. Vaginal deliveries offer tremendous benefits to both babies and mothers.

There is no real evidence that herpes is sexually transmitted. It may be sexually transmitted but the evidence is flimsy.

One thing most people have in common when it comes to sex is they often have it at the weakest point of the day or week.

The likelihood of someone getting herpes first thing in the morning after a good nights sleep is slim to none. This is because the body and particularly the immune system is refreshed and recharged.

The likelihood of someone getting herpes at 3am in the morning after a hard day of work or worse 3am on a Friday after a hard week of work is extremely likely even if the person they sleep with does not have herpes.

At 3am on a Friday or Saturday the immune system is FULLY tapped out. There is nothing to protect you from anything your partner has or anything you already have. That's right every reader here has thousands of pathogens as they read this and as long as their primary immune response is getting respect and an opportunity to replenish itself your body will fight these pathogens without creating the IgG antibody incorrectly associated with a fictitious virus thought to cause what is known as herpes.

Almost everything published about herpes is nothing more than opinion and medical belief. No one actually sees a "herpe" in the flesh, that is a HUGE myth.

Any pathogen can cause an IgG antibody defense when the primary immune response starts to fail. As long as the primary immune response is up and running a person is basically immune to pathogens that cause "herpes" like outbreaks.

The human immune system does not respond to products. This means there are no natural products to fight the pathogen that causes outbreaks. Those are all myths. If someone has experienced relief after using such products is because of the placebo effect. The only product that will eliminate herpes pathogens is a product that poisons and kills the pathogen and no natural product will do that.

Once you learn the truth about what causes herpes you can learn what drug you need to get from your doctor to cure the outbreaks and the drugs do exist your doctors just don't have the facts.
